Grace had a very vivid concept of heaven and what it will be like to be there and this anticipation emerges in many of her poems. In this poem, written in 1987 when a close friend’s husband passed away, she takes the text “Casting all your care upon him for he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7) and applies it to her situation. Grace gave this poem to numerous people between then and 2001.
You know dear Lord what this day brings
The need I have to lean on You
Please lift me up and take my hand
I know You care, You understand.
You know the sadness, weekness strain
You know the heartache and the pain
This day by You, dear Lord, was planned
I know You care, You understand.
And so I bring myself to You
You know my needs – more than I do,
Give me Your strength – with you I’ll stand
I know You care – You understand.
My loved on, Lord, is in Your care
And I can leave him safely there,
though I have lost I know he’s gained
I know You care – You understand.
For he is now at home with You
There’s nothing that can dim his view
He’ll see Your beauty in that land
I know You care – You understand.
