10 days in Colossians – day 10
I’ve started so I’ll finish …
Have a mull over Colossians 2:6-7
It was the quiz show ‘Mastermind’ which gave us this phrase. If the question master was still reading the question when the bleeper went off, he could carry on asking until the question was complete – and the contestant could have an extra few seconds to answer.
Paul is using this concept here. God has started a work in us, and in the people we will be ministering to, and what he’s started he intends to complete.
The wonderful truth is that he uses imperfect, ordinary, work-in-progress Christians like us to achieve it!
For us, we started by receiving Christ, whether that was a moment we can remember or a process over time is immaterial. As followers of Jesus we are ‘in Christ’ so we minister from that secure, unassailable foundation.
Then, having believed in Christ, there is a need for growth. Paul likens Christ to the soil in which we are rooted, and therefore the source of nourishment and fruitfulness.
One of the tell-tale signs of Christian who is growing is gratitude. Paul describes it as ‘overflowing with thankfulness’. Gratitude is in the DNA of Christians who are growing in Christ. As we minister to people, wherever that may be, whatever you part may be, I pray you will spot moments for which you can thank God for his goodness and power.
God bless you.
Prayer
Praise God that one day he will complete his work in you and the people you minister to.
Admit: Is there anything I need to confess to him today?
Come: Bring your requests to him now – especially pray for …
Thank: What particular things can you thank him for today?
