I’m studying Jonah in preparation for a conference talk and, being national poetry day, I thought a limerick might be appropriate.
A prophet on the run under sails
Was swallowed by a fish in the gales
In its belly he stayed
And he sang as he prayed
Cos everyone sings in Wales
I once entered this for a limerick competition.
I did not win a prize.

I wrote a limerick for my colleague Phil this morning and then he wrote one back – it has brought smiles to our faces for the day and ties in perfectly with our Sunday morning on “poetic faith” from Daniel (thanks Gerard Kelly!) and creative response time (hopefully anyway!!) All is well here – Caitlin has started secondary school and apart from shedloads of homework and yet again evil Maths and Physics is enjoying herself!! (actually she likes Maths!) Joel is his normal bouncy self!
Good to see some things haven’t changed Ian … do you still sing the song that “prophet at a loss” comes from …. guess it would still make me groan now!! Hope you’re well and Rosi 🙂
Hi Lisa
Astonishingly that limerick actually dates back to out time in Purley and I only rediscovered it whilst trawling through some notes while prepping for a conference. Great to hear from you and hope all is well.
