My prayer will rise to you

A very meditative song written for a Sunday when I was preaching on Daniel chapter 9. It was Daniel’s praying that got into trouble with his colleagues in the Babylonian leadership. It was a classic piece of entrapment that resulted in Daniel being thrown into a den of lions. God’s rescue was as stunning as it is simple; the lions didn’t seem hungry (this story is in Daniel 6).
In this piece I tried to imagine what Daniel might have felt when he realised he was being duped by people close to him.

Enjoy!

Lyrics

When friends forsake
and loved ones spurn me
when all seems lost
and faith escapes me

and when my sin
mounts to accuse me
your promises
seem so far from me.

My prayer will rise to you,
my prayer will rise to you,
as incense wafting to you throne,
my prayer will rise to you.

When danger prowls
and foes are near me;
when trouble comes
and strife surrounds me.

When problems mount
and worry plagues me;
when stress arrives
and strain is round me.

My prayer will rise to you …

When in my heart
I sense your glory
and in your word
I hear you call me.

When scripture’s voice
speaks life within me
and words of hope
combine to lift me.

My prayer will rise to you …

This is not a live recording and is therefore somewhat mechanical, but when sung at a meditative point in the worship it worked well. You’ll need to add your own expression to it when you sing it!
