Violin Arpeggio Study

This is a piano accompaniment to a classic Kinsey study on the violin.

When I’m playing this piece I find, as I expect many novice players do, that my mental sense of being in tune drifts as the piece goes on. Of course Kinsey did us a favour by putting some notes on open strings and they act a brief reference points. However, having some external source of tuning helps me to improve the intonation. It’s another auditory cue to nudge my intonation closer to the mark.

I hope you find this helpful. There are backing tracks at different speeds so you can work up to full fluency. They’re all in MP3 format for you to download. The output is produced by the Sibelius virtual orchestra. I thought that this might sound rather mechanical at first but with a little tweaking it produces what I consider to be a very acceptable performance (for a machine, that is!)
